Lesson & Home Studio Policies

Updated December 2025

Welcome to Grant’s Piano Lessons — a structured, supportive, and family-friendly home studio where students learn, grow, and thrive.

This studio is designed to provide a safe, respectful, and focused learning environment for every musician. To ensure a smooth experience for students, parents, and siblings alike, it is important the studio maintains clear guidelines on home access, studio etiquette, behavior expectations, attendance, and safety. These policies help protect the learning space, respect everyone’s time, and create a positive atmosphere where great music (and great habits) can flourish. Please review the studio policies below so we can work together to create a productive and enjoyable musical journey.

For your convenience, the studio's downloadable policy acknowledgement and liability release form is attached here:

Lesson Policies

Student Attendance and Payment

Lessons may be canceled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours’ notice. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice are considered a missed lesson and are not eligible for a makeup or credit.

Students are expected to attend a minimum of 8 lessons within any 12-week period. Consistent attendance is important for steady progress and helps ensure lesson time is used effectively.

Weekly lesson times are reserved for students who are actively attending. If attendance falls below this expectation, the reserved time may be offered to another student who can attend consistently. This is not automatic termination, and I will always communicate before making any changes.

I understand that illness and unexpected situations happen, and I will do my best to be flexible when appropriate.

Student Cancellations

If you need to reschedule a lesson, please let me know immediately. While canceled lessons are not credited, with enough notice, there is a greater chance of finding an agreed-upon time for rescheduling. Not all cancellations will result in rescheduling if a make-up lesson day and time cannot be agreed upon within one week of the missed lesson.

Attendance & Make-up Policy

Tuition reserves your weekly lesson time and is billed monthly. Consistent attendance is expected, with a minimum of 8 lessons within any 12-week period to maintain steady progress and a reserved weekly time slot. While I will always do my best to offer a rescheduled lesson when possible, make-ups are not guaranteed and depend on availability, and priority is given to maintaining consistent weekly lessons.

Even when cancellations are not charged, attending your scheduled lesson time is an important part of your learning commitment, and excessive absences may affect a student’s enrollment status.

Late to a Lesson

If you arrive at a lesson late, I will give you the remaining time from the original start time. I cannot offer a make-up for the missed time due to late attendance.

No-Show

No-shows are not eligible for rescheduling, and the full lesson fee will still be charged.

Ending Lessons

If you need to end lessons, please provide notice before the start of the next billing cycle. Tuition is billed monthly and reserves your weekly lesson time, so refunds are not issued for mid-month cancellations. This notice allows me to adjust scheduling and may allow another student to take the open time slot.

Teacher Cancellations

If I need to cancel a lesson, you will not be charged for that lesson. I will always do my best to offer a rescheduled time if availability allows.

There are 41 home Colorado Avalanche games per season. On days when games fall, students have top priority for rescheduling lessons that week. I will send out the Avalanche Home schedule in late Summer.

If I am late to a lesson, I will offer to adjust the rate for that lesson or, if possible, add extra time for that lesson or the next.

Although I teach from my home studio, in the event of an emergency, I may need to leave without notice. If this happens, the lesson will not be charged, and I will do my best to reschedule you for a new time.

Snow Days and Weather Cancellations

If bad weather cancels an in-person instruction, ideally, the lesson will be streamed over

Zoom.  Lessons not attended via Zoom or rescheduled later in person will be

shown as a student cancellation on the billing statement.
