Lesson & Home Studio Policies

Updated December 2025

Welcome to Grant’s Piano Lessons — a structured, supportive, and family-friendly home studio where students learn, grow, and thrive.

This studio is designed to provide a safe, respectful, and focused learning environment for every musician. To ensure a smooth experience for students, parents, and siblings alike, it is important the studio maintains clear guidelines on home access, studio etiquette, behavior expectations, attendance, and safety. These policies help protect the learning space, respect everyone’s time, and create a positive atmosphere where great music (and great habits) can flourish. Please review the studio policies below so we can work together to create a productive and enjoyable musical journey.

Lesson Policies

Student Attendance and Payment

Billing occurs at the end of the month in the form of a statement, payable at the start of the upcoming month to cover that month's services. Your billing statement will also list the lessons taught or canceled during the previous month. If there are any student cancellations, this will be noted on the statement but will not be deducted. If there are any teacher cancellations, they will be reported and deducted from the monthly rate for the next month, depending on whether it is a four- or five-week month on your lesson day. The adjusted rate is for the missed lesson, not the month billed. The lesson rate will often be the same each month, but it can vary.

Student Cancellations

If you need to reschedule a lesson, please let me know immediately. While canceled lessons are not credited, with enough notice, there is a greater chance of finding an agreed-upon time for rescheduling. Not all cancellations will result in rescheduling if a make-up lesson day and time cannot be agreed upon within one week of the missed lesson.

Attendance & Make-up Policy

Even though lessons are still charged to hold your reserved time each month, students are required to maintain good attendance. To remain enrolled, students may not miss more than half of their scheduled lessons in a month. Consistency is essential for progress, and this policy helps ensure steady growth and commitment to learning.

There is a maximum of 2 make-up lessons per semester (early August – late December), and make-ups are scheduled at the teacher's discretion.

Late to a Lesson

If you arrive at a lesson late, I will give you the remaining time from the original start time. I cannot offer a make-up for the missed time due to late attendance.

No-Show

I’ll give each student a grace period of fifteen minutes to arrive at the lesson; after that, the lesson may be cancelled. No-shows are not eligible for rescheduling.

Ending Lessons

You must notify me before the 8th day of the month if you are ending lessons to receive a refund for the remaining lessons in the month.

Teacher Cancellations

If I need to cancel and no make-up time aligns with your schedule, then the lesson rate for that week will be subtracted from the bill for the next month.

There are 41 home Colorado Avalanche games per season. On the days that games fall on, students have top priority for rescheduling lessons that week. I will send out the Avalanche Home schedule in late Summer.

If I am late to a lesson, I will offer to adjust the rate for that lesson or, if possible, add extra time for that lesson or the next.

Snow Days and Weather Cancellations

If bad weather cancels an in-person instruction, ideally, the lesson will be streamed over

Zoom. If this isn’t possible, you can arrange a makeup lesson, if available, for an

extra cost of $5. Lessons not attended via Zoom or rescheduled later in person will be

shown as a student cancellation on the billing statement.

Holidays & Summer Break

  • Tuition includes school holidays

    • Thanksgiving (Tue–Sun)

    • Winter Break (2 weeks)

    • Spring Break (1 floating week).

  • Summer break: Following the June recital through the 2nd Monday in August.

  • Minimum requirement of 2 lessons/month if you wish to hold your roster spot during the summer.

A holiday week is a week without regular instruction. School-wide holidays are included in the monthly tuition cost. These are the weeks for Thanksgiving (Tuesday through Sunday), Winter Break (two weeks), and Spring Break (one floating week, depending on your family’s or vacation itinerary in March and April).

Tuition for music lessons is set at a monthly cost. As a result, your monthly charge will remain the same for longer or shorter months. The monthly tuition is fixed, and the advance flat-rate tuition pricing includes holiday weeks with no classes.

Summer Break will start after the June recital and end on the second Monday in August. Although Summer lessons are not required, they guarantee your spot on my roster in the Fall. You must take at least two lessons per month to be considered still on my roster during the Summer months. If you are unavailable during the Summer, you can hold your roster spot by paying two weeks of tuition per month for June and July. You are allowed to stack summer Lessons. EX: If you are gone for all of June but available for four lessons in July, you do not need to pay for two lessons in June to retain your designated weekly lesson time.
